If you happen to take a look at today's Oregonian, you'll notice a huge-sized spread in the living section on the upcoming "Fifty Years of Godzilla" film festival at the Hollywood Theatre. Notice the huge "Godzilla" standing to the left of the article (Unfortunately, the photo isn't online. I'll probably scan it and put it up later tonight). Notice the huge, fan-like ear sprouting from his head. Yeah, that's not Godzilla.
I did a double-take when I saw that photo this morning. I knew Godzilla may have had tiny ears in some of his movies, but nothing that big. I wondered whether the photo may have come from a early film featuring the building-stomping reptilian. So I went to Corbis, the stock photography service where the Oregonian had pulled the photo, and searched for "Godzilla."
Apparently the Oregon messed up and used a photo from the British monster movie Gorgo, which features a Godzilla-like monster. The description under the photo clearly explains that the monster is in fact, not Godzilla.
Okay, so this may all seem like comic book geek ranting, but the Oregonian messed up here. I guess the Oregonian just can't take the time to read the description of a photo before plastering it on a page. Maybe I should just be thankful that they managed to name Mothra correctly.
Heads had better roll over this one.
