The past month has gone by quickly, as has the whole year. I'm done with UPS and now moving on to better and brighter things.
I did get a job a substitute educational assistant and worked for two days at my old high school back in the middle of December. I would have worked more days except UPS was draining most of my energy. I would have ended up injuring myself because of fatigue or just catching a bad cold if I kept doing 12-hour days. So, I put a hold on substituting and finished up at UPS.
Then, last week, I got a phone call from a nearby school district asking if I was available for an interview. I had applied for a temporary teaching assistant position over there back in November and figured that I wouldn't hear from them. Now I was a candidate for one of two positions that would last till the end of this school year.
The interview was on Friday and I got a call back on Monday asking me if I wanted the job. I said yes, of course, and have now finished my second day. I'm assisting an autistic student at the high school. He's a fascinating kid and I would love to talk some more about my job, but I'll have to keep myself restricted on this public blog. I'll be a little more talkative about job-related things on my MySpace blog, which can only be viewed by friends.
Anyway, over the holidays I got to catch up with WWB, although I regret not getting another chance to see him while watching the Holiday Bowl, due to a misplaced pair of glasses and my inability to drive at night without them. I also got to spend time with Samantha, who's going to grad school in Baltimore, and I finally saw Tim's cozy little home in Seattle during New Year's celebrations.
There are probably a few more things that have happened, but all I really remember are box-slinging, friends, and a new job. Not a bad way to end the year and to start a new one.
Is the title of this post a reference to that one band? Death Cab for the Postal Service?
Yes, though maybe I could have thrown in a Modest Mouse on Mars reference in there also.
