New Orleans: Take Action

(I'm reposting a bulletin I sent out on MySpace yesterday. I think this will probably be the only post I do on Hurricane Katrina and its effects because there's plenty of other blogs out there that will do a better job.)

I can't comprehend all the chaos and pain that's happening down in New Orleans and the rest of the Gulf Coast right now. I wish I could do something, like help deliver food and water, but that's sort of hard to do when you live thousands of miles away.

So, today I donated money to the Red Cross. The smallest amount you can donate is $25, which might be hard to dig up if you don't have a job or are going through school. But think about it; that's the cost of a couple week's worth of Starbucks, or one fun night of going out to the bars.

If you're still hard up for cash, gather some money from friends or co-workers. Five bucks from five friends equals one valuable donation.

Here are some organizations that are helping out in the effort:

Red Cross

Salvation Army
Mercy Corps

And for you animal lovers:
The US Humane Society

Thanks for taking the time to read this.
