A Decision!

Yesterday, I received a letter from the University of Pittsburgh. Application status: Rejected! After a couple of back and forth e-mails about my application at Pitt, the school ended up being quicker in responding via the postal service than by electronic methods. Now I can finally breathe a sigh of relief as I can confirm that I'm going to Saguaro University, aka the University of Arizona.

I've been mentally preparing myself for a move to Tucson over the past week and had already started looking forward to it, almost to the point of possibly being disappointed if I were accepted to Pitt. I won't get the whole East Coast experience I wanted at Pitt or Rutgers, but living in the Southwest is going to give me a similar feeling of displacement, I suspect. As I discussed with a colleague over e-mail, I could get used to good Mexican food, margaritas, lots of cacti, and swimming pools with swimming pool weather. Additionally, I received word from the school that they have recalculated my GPA based on the last 60 quarter hours, which barely makes it higher than the minimum required. No more provisional status! I'm a regular graduate student now!

I got this wisdom to pass on: Before you jump in an outdoor pool, check to see that it is cooled. Not heated, cooled.

My brother was visiting a friend in Arizona when it was 117 degrees, and he jumped in a pool thinking it would be a good call. Turned out the water was also 117 degrees. Beware!

You'll have fun down there. Just remember where your basketball loyalties lie.

That goes double for NCAA football loyalties. Booo, Wildcats, booo! Go Mighty Fighting Waterfowls!

Dude! Sorry to hear about the Pitt rejection, but I'm so happy you finally have a decision! Arizona — that's going to be great!

I have always wanted to live in the Southwest, though for me it's because I know the dry weather would mean a god hair day everyday. Heh.

Now you can quit stressin' about your admission and start stressin' about packing and moving! What a joy!

Danimal: I will take the swimming pool advice to heart. No one wants to get their junk boiled.

Brandon: Yes, I must buy some more UO-themed merchandise from the bookstore before my move.

Janssen: Congrats to you too! Perhaps in an alternate universe we would have been classmates.

vague: It's going to be quite a change of scenery, for sure. And yes, now it's time to figure out where the hell I am living come this January.
