It was a two concert weekend. First, I saw the Minibosses at Ground Kontrol on Friday night. Who are the Minibosses, you ask? I can only describe them as, "Nintendocore."
I think I blew about $5 worth of quarters playing pinball, Ms. Pac-Man, and Raiden II before the show, but there's nothing like playing on those old arcade machines.
Here is a video of them performing the music to "Punch Out." Ding ding!
Second, I saw Ben Folds at the Roseland on Saturday night. I got to the show pretty late because of a soccer game, slow drivers, and trouble finding parking, so I missed Rufus Wainwright's opening set, but I did get to see him perform a duet with Mr. Folds on a cover of George Michael's "Careless Whisper." Hot.
Here is a video of Ben Folds playing "Not The Same," including lots of audience participation.
I apologize for the quality and format of the videos, but my video editing software does a crap job compressing the videos into anything but Window Media Video format. Sorry to all of you Mac users.
I believe you mean Wham!'s "Careless Whisper," which I performed at karaoke last night here in sunny South Bend, Indiana. It was also a duet, but less with Rufus Wainwright and more with my friend Jenn.
I'm sure both performances were equally moving, however.
Huh. When I met Olly for a drink after the show, I referred to the song as a Wham cover and he said, "I believe you mean George Michael's 'Careless Whisper'."
So, I think you need to figure this out between you and Olly… with pistols at dawn, of course.
Maybe Olly was just making a snide comment about the artistic contributions of Andrew Ridgeley.
Don't think I'm backing down from a duel, mind you. I was just saying…
